Arbitration Initiative Georgia

7th Tbilisi Pre-Moot is Starting with International Arbitration Conference

Arbitration Initiative Georgia is pleased to announce 7th Tbilisi Pre-Moot to be held during February 9-11, 2018

It is the 7th time that Arbitration Initiative Georgia is hosting Tbilisi Pre-Moot for Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition. Over the past years, we have been honored to be the venue where foreign and Georgian Vis Moot teams start their Vis Moot journey here in Georgia.

The Pre-Moot will once again provide a unique opportunity for participating teams to practice the moot-related skills in Tbilisi. We are glad to note the record number of total 15 teams engaged in the pre-moot this year. AIG is especially pleased to observe the particular interest of foreign visiting teams from the University of Passau (Germany), University of Hamburg (Germany), Free University of Berlin (Germany), National Research University Higher School of Economics  Higher School of Economics (Russia), Baku State University (Azerbaijan), Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany), Bucerius Law School (Germany), Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), Aarhus University (Denmark) and French University in Armenia (Armenia). AIG also celebrates continuing tradition of four Georgian teams from Free University of Tbilisi, Tbilisi State University, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs and New Vision University for maintaining the substantial presence of Georgian representation in the moot and first ever Vis Moot team from University of Georgia joining the competition.

The event will be opened with International Arbitration Conference with panel discussions regarding the current issues of Vis Moot and debates in British Parliamentary style on “hot” topic of this year competition. The oral pleadings will be held on February 10th and 11th with the participation of specially invited arbitrators from academia and legal practice evaluating the performance of the teams.

The three-day event was made possible with the assistance of Free University Tbilisi and Tbilisi State University providing state-of-art venues for the Pre-Moot Conference and the oral hearings. AIG is particularly grateful for the support of the joint project of European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) „Enhancing Access to Justice and Development of a Child-friendly Justice System in Georgia”.

We are proud to partner with GIZ for 7 years already. If not the exceptional contribution from the organization, providing significant financial support for participating teams from Germany, the pre-moot would not stand out with its particularly diverse international coverage.

7th Tbilisi Pre-Moot will be particularly valuable for its social events. AIG is pleased to observe continuous support of EY Georgia providing the unique networking opportunity for coaches and arbitrators though already a traditional reception on the eve of the pre-moot.

We are particularly glad to announce an already traditional feature of the event - official closing and awards ceremony, which will be fully arranged by Deloitte Legal. AIG thanks entire Deloitte team for all the effort and support.

We also wish to express gratitude to BLC Law Firm, always ready to contribute to Tbilisi Pre-Moot.

We wish the participants best of luck and enjoyable stay in Tbilisi!
